We're going to "The Show"!
2011's event at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center was all about "Going to The Show." That's baseball lingo describing the storied leap from the Minors to the Major Leagues, and all the excitement, anxiety, hard work and joy involved in achieving a long-sought dream.
Dream Gala guests entered the cocktail/silent auction reception area through our signature "Nationals Arch" framed with dreamy white curtains, palm trees and other Hollywood touches. The guests were later ushered into the Maryland Ballroom, passing through a fanciful movie theater entrance complete with custom-designed coming attraction posters featuring our stars ("Mr. Werth Goes to Washington"; "Livan Los Vegas"; "Some Like the Hot Corner" to name a few!) The movieland décor extended to the ballroom where guests were seated at tables draped in silver lamé and topped with white orchids as spotlights cut through the misted ballroom. Fresh from a victory in a Beltway Battle with the Baltimore Orioles, The players and coaches made their entrance on an elevated red carpet with introductions by the MASN broadcasting team. Several players reminisced about their first game in the Majors in a short film which debuted at the gala on a giant video screen elaborately framed in the style of an old fashioned movie theater. Following the player introductions, guests were updated on the Dream Foundation's grants to local non-profits and the recent groundbreaking of the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy. A video feature profiled ten recent Dream Foundation grantees and offered guests a glimpse into the various local organizations that work relentlessly to provide our children with recreation and education opportunities.
This year's event netted more than $350,000 which will benefit our cornerstone programs.
