COACHING CAREER: Mack Jenkins is in his 32nd season in the organization as a player or coach/instructor, in his seventh year on the Reds' Major League coaching staff and in his second full season season as pitching January 2012 was hired as assistant pitching coach, and in 2014 took on added duties as bullpen coach...began the 2016 season in that assistant/bullpen coach position until he replaced pitching coach Mark Riggins on 7/4/16...Reds pitchers went 30-54, 5.53 before he was named pitching coach and 38-40, 4.23 the rest of the 2016 season...before he joined the Major League staff, spent the previous 6 seasons (2006-2011) as the club's minor league pitching 2012 and 2013 assisted pitching coach Bryan Price in producing 2 of the most successful pitching staffs in franchise each of the 2012 and 2013 seasons Reds pitchers established club records for strikeouts (1,248 in 2012 & 1,296 in 2013)...the 2012 and 2013 staffs are the first in Major League history to produce in consecutive seasons at least 6 pitchers with 100 strikeouts (2013: Homer Bailey 199, Mat Latos 187, Bronson Arroyo 124, Mike Leake 122, Tony Cingrani 120, Aroldis Chapman 112 & 2012: Latos 185, Johnny Cueto 170, Bailey 168, Arroyo 129, Chapman 122, Leake 116) 2013 Reds pitchers led the NL in strikeouts, their 17 team shutouts were the most since 1973, the starters' ERA of 3.43 was the staff's best since 1974 (3.41), and Reds relievers produced franchise-record scoreless streaks of 10 games (28.2ip, 6/29-7/11) and 32.2 innings (12g, 6/28-7/12)...overall in 2013, Reds pitchers ranked fourth in the National League in overall team ERA (3.38), third in starting staff ERA (3.43) and fourth in bullpen ERA (.329) 2012, Reds pitchers ranked third in the NL in team ERA (3.34), first in the Major Leagues in relief ERA (2.65) and saves (56), first in the NL in opponents' BA vs relievers (.219) and fourth in the NL in starters' ERA (3.64)...the 2012 bullpen averaged 9.90 strikeouts per 9 innings, the second-highest season average for a team bullpen in Major League history (2010 Braves, 10.06), and 5 pitchers started 161 of the Reds' 162 games (Arroyo, Bailey, Cueto, Latos, Leake)...the 2012 staff was 1 of only 9 in Major League history with 5 pitchers who made at least 30 starts each and was the Reds' first since 1943 with 4 pitchers who compiled 200 innings each (Arroyo, Bailey, Cueto, Latos)...Jenkins was hired in October 1989 as a minor league pitching coach and spent 16 seasons in that position at Rookie Billings (1990-91), Class A Cedar Rapids (1992), Class A Charleston (1993-95), Class AA Chattanooga (1996-2001) and Class AAA Louisville (2002-05).

PLAYING CAREER: Was signed by the Reds as a non-drafted free agent in 1986 and pitched in their minor league system for 3 seasons...1 year after his professional playing career ended, he rejoined the organization in the player development department.

PERSONAL: In 1982 graduated from A.P. Leto High School in Tampa...pitched at Hilsborough Community College and for the University of Tampa, where he received his bachelor's degree in business...wife's name is Delight...daughter Corinne, 24, pitched for the Florida International University softball team and ranks second on the school's all-time list for victories...son Payton, 21, pitches for Cincinnati Christian University.
