COACHING CAREER: Jeff Pico is in his first season in the organization... spent the previous 11 seasons in the Diamondbacks system, the last two as Minor League field coordinator...was Arizona's Minor League pitching coordinator from 2009-2011 and pitching coach at Class A Yakima (2003), South Bend (2004), Lancaster (2005-2006) and Visalia (2007) and Class AA Mobile (2008)...returned to Mobile in 2009 but in May became the pitching coordinator...his 2007 Visalia staff ranked third in the California League with a 4.29era and led the league in saves...his 2004 South Bend squad led the organization with a 3.81era...before he joined the D'Backs, from 1997-2002 was pitching coach for the independent Western League's Chico Heat...for five straight seasons from 1998-2002 the Heat led the league in staff ERA.

PLAYING CAREER: Was selected by the Cubs in the 13th round of the June 1984 draft and went 13-12, 4.24 in 26 starts and 87 relief apps from 1988-90...in a 4-0 win vs the Reds on 5/31/88 became the first Cubs pitcher in 79 years to throw a shutout in his Major League debut...in 1995 and 1996 was a player/coach for the Western League's Bend Bandits.

PERSONAL: Attended Antioch (CA) High School...wife's name is Debbie...they have a 13-year-old son, Jagger.
