COACHING CAREER: Freddie Benavides is in his first season on the Major League coaching staff...spent the previous 15 years in the Reds' Minor League system, including the last 6 as player development field coordinator... also spent 7 seasons as infield coordinator and in 2007 filled in as manager for the rookie league Billings club...overall spent 4 seasons as a minor league manager...in 2000, before he was named infield coordinator, managed Class A Dayton in its inaugural season and led the Dragons to a Midwest League playoff spot with a 70-67 mark...in 2003 he served as a coach with the Major League club from August 5 through the remainder of the season.

PLAYING CAREER: Was selected by the Reds in the second round of the June 1987 amateur draft...the former infielder made 219 Major League apps over parts of 4 seasons with the Reds, Rockies and Expos.

PERSONAL: Graduated from Nixon High School in Laredo, TX...attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas...wife's name is Violeta...they have 3 children, Krizia and twins Sienna and Alec.
