On Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2011, the Kalamazoo Turn 2 programs once again took part in their annual year-end trip. The trip gave all participants of Turn 2 programs in Kalamazoo an opportunity to celebrate a year of hard work and accomplishments. Programs in attendance included Youth in Action, Proud 2 Be Me-Washington, the Kalamazoo Jeter's Leaders, T.R.A.M - Extra Innings at Derek's Dugout, Proud 2 Be Me-Douglass and participants from the annual Kalamazoo Baseball Clinic.
This year's trip was to Chicago to watch an exciting game between the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field. After everyone received a T-shirt provided by Turn 2, the participants loaded up the buses headed to Chicago in order to catch the first pitch. They enjoyed snacks on the bus on their way to the game. This provided a good opportunity for participants of the programs to talk to each other and discuss all their accomplishments throughout the program year.
Once they arrived at U.S. Cellular Field and settled into their seats, they were able to enjoy a great game. It was a close contest up until the sixth inning when the Yankees began to run away with it. The final score was 7-2 Yankees. One of the many highlights of the game was when Derek Jeter came up to bat and there was a collective roar and wild ovation from the programs, as they were able to see the foundation founder do what he does best.
On the bus ride back to Kalamazoo the participants talked about how much fun they had at the game and also discussed their excitement for the upcoming program year, which was set to kick off in the early fall. It was another amazing trip to cap off another extraordinary program year! A special thank you to all of Turn 2's generous sponsors that help provide snacks and goodies for the trip!
Since its launch in 1996, the Turn 2 Foundation has awarded more than $23 million to create and support signature programs that motivate young people to turn away from drugs and alcohol and "Turn 2" healthy lifestyles. Learn more »
