|MLBPA Press Release|
Last season, Jackson led all Major League rookies in hits (181), runs (103) and stolen bases (27), while finishing second among rookies in total bases (247), doubles (34) and games played (151-tie).
Inge captured the Marvin Miller Man of the Year award, named for the founding executive director of the Major League Baseball Players Association and awarded to the player whose on-field and off-field performances most inspire others to higher levels of achievement, for his work with C.S. Mott Childrens Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich., and other causes.
In recognition of Jacksons outstanding performance, the Major League Baseball Players Trust will make a $20,000 contribution to the charity of his choice. On Inges behalf, the Players Trust made a $50,000 contribution to C.S. Mott Childrens Hospital. Since 1992, the Players Trust has contributed close to $3 million to 180 different charities around the world in honor of Players Choice Award winners.
Through the Players Trust, Major Leaguers contribute their time, money and celebrity to call attention to important causes affecting the needy and to help encourage others to get involved in their own communities. In partnership with Volunteers of America, the national human service organization, the Players Trust administers the Action Team, a national youth volunteer program currently inspiring the next generation of volunteers in more than 160 high schools in cities throughout the United States.
