Rolen held out of Reds' opener with Cubs
No concussion, just headache after taking pitch to head
By Steve Gartner / MLB.com
CINCINNATI -- Third baseman Scott Rolen was out of the lineup for Monday's series opener against the Cubs after being hit in the head by a pitch in Sunday's game. Manager Dusty Baker said Rolen didn't sustain a concussion but did have a headache the day after. "I've never seen a ball ricochet like that," Baker said of the way the ball hit Rolen's helmet. "That ball went all the way to third base." In the seventh inning of the Reds' 6-4 loss to the Rockies, Rolen was hit by a four-seam fastball thrown by Colorado's Jason Marquis.
In two games with the Reds, Rolen is 0-for-6.
