Fans are invited to vote in the All-Stars Among Us campaign, a presentation of People Magazine and Major League Baseball, for the 30 winners from June 8-24. One winner will be chosen as a representative of every club, and all 30 will be honored at Busch Stadium in St. Louis for the July 14 All-Star Game. One club representative also will be featured in People Magazine.
Here are the finalists for Cincinnati:
Bob Steffen's charity, Big Stef, has given more than $400,000 to the needy. Steffen's programs include food baskets and school supplies for low-income families. In 25 years of service to the community, Steffen has touched many lives and generated much good will. He is from Newport, Ken.
Sherri J. Friedman founded and runs Most Valuable Kids of Greater Cincinnati, an organization that distributes unused tickets to live sports and cultural events to underprivileged children. Friedman has helped more than 22,000 children, including more than 4,800 tickets to Reds games.
Heather Beatty of Alexandra, Va., started a program called Communities United Partnership, which links the community of Eaton, Ohio, with five villages of Sierre Leon, Africa. Residents of Eaton have traveled to Africa and raised more than $100,000 to provide nets, beds, school renovations, livestock, seed, water wells and latrines.
