Reds cut two pitchers from spring camp

Valenzuela sold back to Braves; Ramirez optioned to Louisville

TAMPA, Fla. -- The first cuts came Monday at Reds camp and they involved two pitchers.

Pitcher Sergio Valenzuela, a Rule 5 Draft selection, was sold back to the Braves. Right-hander Ramon Ramirez was optioned to Triple-A Louisville.

The Reds paid $50,000 to select Valenzuela from Atlanta's Double-A roster. Since he didn't remain the club's 25-man roster, he was returned for $25,000.

Outside of an intrasquad game, Valenzuela saw no spring innings for the Reds.

Ramirez pitched in three games, including on Sunday vs. the Rays, and posted an 11.57 ERA (three earned runs over 2 1/3 innings).

Monday's transactions leave 62 players in camp, including 32 pitchers.
