SURPRISE, Ariz. -- The Kansas City Royals today announced that second baseman Mark Grudzielanek will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Monday in Kansas City for a medial meniscus cartilage tear.

The procedure will be performed by Dr. Steve Joyce, the Royals team physician.

Grudzielanek, 36, suffered the injury during workouts prior to Saturday's game against the Texas Rangers. Once deemed ready to travel, Grudzielanek will return to the team's facility in Surprise, Ariz., to immediately begin rehabilitation. There is no timetable on his return available at this time.
