Cincinnati Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips, who led the league with 17 RBI, has been named Bank of America Presents the National League Player of the Week for April 17-23, 2006. Bank of America, the Official Bank of Major League Baseball, is the presenting sponsor of the National League and American League Player of the Week Awards, which reflect Bank of America's long-standing tradition of promoting and recognizing higher standards of accomplishment.

Phillips, acquired by the Reds from the Cleveland Indians in an April 7th trade, hit .452 (14-31) with six runs, three home runs, four doubles and 27 total bases last week. Over seven games, he put together a slugging percentage of .871 and a .452 on-base percentage. Brandon compiled a career-high seven-game hitting streak, including a three-hit, four-RBI performance vs. Florida on April 17th. He also had a three-hit, six-RBI showing that included two home runs (one grand slam) at Milwaukee on April 20th. The 17 RBI by Phillips are the most by an N.L.
