Pat Burrell wins Bank of America Presents the National League Player of the Week Award

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Pat Burrell, who led the league with an incredible 15 RBI, has been named Bank of America Presents the National League Player of the Week for the period of April 4-10. Bank of America, the official bank of Major League Baseball, is the presenting sponsor of the National League and American League Player of the Week Awards, which reflect the bank's long-standing tradition of promoting and recognizing higher standards of accomplishment.

Burrell also paced the league with 12 hits, 24 total bases and a .960 slugging percentage. Over six games the right-handed slugger batted .480 (12-25) with three home runs, three doubles, five runs and a .483 on-base percentage. Burrell set a career best by recording an RBI in six straight games and collected at least one hit in all six games played to secure this year's first weekly honor.

Other nominees this past week included Burrell's Philadelphia teammate, Jon Lieber (2-0, 3.29 ERA, 6 SO); Florida's Josh Beckett (2-0, 0.00 ERA, 17 SO) and Dontrelle Willis (1-0, 0.00, 3 SO); Houston's Willy Tavares (.529, 3 runs, 2 RBI) and Brad Lidge (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 3 SV); San Francisco's Jason Schmidt (2-0, 1.38 ERA, 16 SO) and Edgardo Alfonzo (.455, 2 HR, 5 RBI); Joe Randa (.400, 3 HR, 8 RBI) of the Cincinnati Reds; New York's Pedro Martinez (1-0, 2.40 ERA, 21 SO); Jeff Kent (.458, 1 HR, 8 RBI) of the Los Angeles Dodgers; Arizona's Troy Glaus (.280, 4 HR, 8 RBI); Washington's Brad Wilkerson (.440, 3 RBI, hit for cycle); and San Diego's Xavier Nady (.364, 3 HR, 10 RBI).
