Josh Tomlin was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday at Boston due to soreness in his right wrist. Right-hander Zach McAllister was called up from Triple-A Columbus to make the spot start for Tomlin, his sixth start in the Majors.
The Indians will make an official roster move to clear a spot for McAllister prior to the 7:10 p.m. game at Fenway Park. The missed start doesn't necessarily mean Tomlin is heading to the disabled list, however.
Tomlin is 1-2 with a 4.67 ERA in six appearances (five starts) this year, with 27 strikeouts to just seven walks. He has given up 18 earned runs on 36 hits in 34 2/3 innings. McAllister is coming off his first Major League win on Monday, having beaten the White Sox in the first game of a doubleheader.
McAllister allowed four runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk while striking out five over six innings. He made four starts for the Tribe in 2011 and went 0-1 with a 6.11 ERA. He's gone 3-1 with a 2.83 ERA in six starts for Triple-A Columbus this season.
