GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Originally slated to be in Saturday's lineup in the home game vs. the Rockies, Reds catcher Ramon Hernandez was scratched and Corky Miller started."He was a little sore," manager Dusty Baker said. "He'll probably play tomorrow. It's not his knee. He's just sore." Baker has wanted to get Hernandez more playing time this spring since his 16 at-bats trail fellow catchers Ryan Hanigan and Devin Mesoraco. Hernandez is batting .188 in nine games.
Mesoraco making impression at Reds camp
GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- It's been an impressive Spring Training for Reds catcher and former first-round Draft pick Devin Mesoraco. He's batting .417 (10-for-24) with one homer and four RBIs and has looked good behind the plate.Since the Reds already have a tandem of Ramon Hernandez and Ryan Hanigan in place, Mesoraco isn't going to make the team out of camp. But if something happened to his incumbents, manager Dusty Baker did not rule out summoning Mesoraco from Triple-A Louisville.

"We might. He was the most improved guy in Spring Training last year," Baker said. "He's doing great. He's going to hit and he's getting better catching. He still has some work to do but he's really, really improved. He's worked hard, he takes charge, he's quiet, he listens and he wants to play. He comes to play."
On their media game notes, the Reds inadvertently omitted reliever Jose Arredondo's name from the list of players that are out of Minor League options. That means the Reds could not send him to the Minors without clearing Arredondo through waivers first.Arredondo has an 11.12 ERA over five appearances this spring as he returns from Tommy John surgery on his elbow 13 months ago. If he's not ready physically, the Reds could possibly put him on the disabled list to give him more time without having to adjust their 40-man roster.
