at Bradenton, Fla.
Monday, March 30

Reds at the plate: Infielder Adam Rosales doubled in the Reds' sixth-inning run. Laynce Nix scored on the two-base hit after being credited with a double that the Pirates' outfielders lost in the sun. Nix singled and scored on another Rosales double in the eighth. Second baseman Brandon Phillips and shortstop Paul Janish each went 1-for-2.

Pirates at the plate: Eric Hinske doubled and scored on Craig Monroe's fourth-inning sacrifice fly. Catcher Ryan Doumit also doubled in one of his three at-bats. Pitcher Ross Ohlendorf was the only other starter with a hit. Jeff Salazar tied the game in the ninth with an RBI single off Josh Roenicke before Jason Jaramillo won it with a walk-off RBI single off Daniel Ray Herrera.

Reds on the mound: Cincinnati starter Johnny Cueto allowed one run on three hits and four walks in five innings. He struck out two. David Weathers came out of the 'pen and pitched a quick and perfect sixth inning. Mike Lincoln followed with a perfect inning of relief himself. Francisco Cordero also pitched a scoreless frame, walking one.

Pirates on the mound: Ohlendorf had yet another strong Spring Training start, this time finishing 5 1/3 innings and allowing one run on three hits. He walked two, struck out three and has now allowed just two runs in 20 2/3 spring innings. Reliever Denny Bautista pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings, though he did allow an inherited runner to score. He allowed three hits and a walk. Reliever Jesse Chavez allowed the Reds' go-ahead run in the eighth.

Grapefruit League records: Pirates 15-13-2; Reds 13-17

Up next: The Reds return to Ed Smith Stadium on Tuesday for a 1:05 p.m. ET game against the Yankees. Right-hander Micah Owings, still in competition for the fifth spot in Cincinnati's rotation, will make the start for the Reds against New York's Joba Chamberlain. It will be Owings' final Spring Training start.
