Team officials confirmed the deal on Monday. Nix will receive $600,000 if he makes Cincinnati's Opening Day roster, and the contract calls for performance bonuses that could up the total value to $1.1 million.
Nix, 28, adds some depth to the Reds' outfield, which is now short Ryan Freel, who was dealt to Baltimore to acquire catcher Ramon Hernandez. Cincinnati had three outfielders -- Jay Bruce, Chris Dickerson and Norris Hopper -- listed on its 40-man roster.
This past season, Nix hit .284 with 23 home runs and 60 RBIs in 103 games for Triple-A Nashville in the Brewers' farm system. Hindered by a shoulder injury throughout the past five seasons, Nix was one of the players traded to Milwaukee in the 2006 package that sent slugger Carlos Lee to Texas.
