MILWAUKEE -- A pitcher in the Reds' farm system was suspended Tuesday for testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug.

Class A Sarasota pitcher Scott Carroll received a 50-game suspension, the Commissioner's Office announced, for testing positive for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG).

A third-round selection by the Reds in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft, Carroll was 7-7 with a 3.60 ERA in 23 games, including 21 starts for Class A Dayton and Sarasota. The right-hander's discipline will be served at the start of the 2009 season.
