CIN: RHP Homer Bailey (0-3, 7.00 ERA)
Bailey will be making his second start in place of the injured Aaron Harang, who is on the disabled list with a strained forearm. Bailey pitched 5 2/3 innings in his last start against the Brewers on July 13, giving up two runs on five hits with no walks and four strikeouts. He received a no-decision, but it was a far cry from his previous three starts -- all losses -- in early June when he struggled mightily and was sent back down to the Minor Leagues. SD: RHP Josh Banks (2-4, 3.20 ERA)
Banks makes his first start since July 6, when he gave up three runs in six innings in a loss to Arizona. Banks is 0-4 with three no-decisions in his past seven starts, though he hasn't pitched poorly in every start. Banks has a 3.20 ERA, which is as high as his ERA has been since the Padres promoted him from Triple-A Portland in May. He did pitch an inning of relief on July 13 to stay fresh, allowing one run on two hits. Banks has never faced the Cardinals. Tidbits
