Astros put Backe on DL, release two
Jimerson's request granted; Gimenez placed on disabled list
TAMPA -- Prior to their night game against the Yankees in Tampa on Wednesday, the Astros made a handful of roster moves, placing right-hander Brandon Backe and catcher Hector Gimenez on the 15-day disabled list.
The Astros also announced that outfielder Charlton Jimerson requested and was granted his outright release from the club. The Astros outrighted him to Double-A Corpus Christi on Monday, taking him off their 40-man roster.
The club also released Minor League left-handed pitcher Kelly Wunsch, who spent the spring attempting to make a comeback after having surgery on his left shoulder last August.
The Astros Spring Training roster stands at 29, including 26 roster players and three non-roster invitees.
