White Sox at the plate: The Sox enjoyed an early outburst against David Wells with two out and none on in the first. In succession, Paul Konerko doubled, Jermaine Dye singled, Joe Crede doubled and Rob Mackowiak hit a two-run single, setting up three runs. Konerko added a second-inning, two-run homer, his third of the spring.

Padres at the plate: Adrian Gonzalez led off the second with a solo homer to center, his third homer and seventh RBI of the spring. Kevin Kouzmanoff doubled in two runs during a four-run fourth. He has five doubles and eight RBIs. Russell Branyan hit his second spring homer, a two-run long ball also hit in the fourth.

White Sox on the mound: Left-hander John Danks, vying for the fifth slot in the Sox rotation, gave up almost all of a 7-0 lead and was unable to make it out of the fourth inning. He allowed six runs on nine hits in 3 2/3 innings, including the homers by Gonzalez and Branyan. Gavin Floyd, the right-hander who is Danks' top competitor, got Gonzalez to ground out with runners on first and second to end the inning.

Padres on the mound: It wasn't a stellar outing for Wells, who allowed seven runs and 10 hits in three innings. He was also unable to cover first base on a Pablo Ozuna grounder to Gonzalez. Boomer allowed Konerko's two-run homer and double, plus doubles by Crede and Toby Hall.

Cactus League records: White Sox 8-12; Padres 6-10.

Up next: The White Sox will face the Royals at 1:05 p.m. PT on Monday in Surprise, Ariz., with Adam Russell on the mound for his second start and fourth spring appearance. The Padres will be in Phoenix to play the A's at 1:05 p.m. Jake Peavy is slated to make his fourth and longest start of the spring, targeting five or six innings.
