The Reds enjoyed participating in GAIN for the second time on October 16th, 2010 at the Goodyear Ballpark. GAIN stands for Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods and was a wonderful opportunity for the team to educate the community about the upcoming 2011 Spring Training Season and share in the excitement of the 2010 post-season. Two minor league players, Stalin Gerson and Jose Amezcua, were on hand to sign autographs and fans were encouraged to play beanbag toss to win various prizes.
On October 14, 2010, four Cincinnati Reds minor league players visited St. John Vianney Catholic School in Goodyear to visit and inspire students in the 4th-8th grade. Players Alex Buchholz, Miguel Chacoa, Evan HIldenbrandt, and Brian Pearl shared their backgrounds with students and talked about the importance of education in their baseball careers and life outside of baseball. The visit ended with the players answering the students' questions and then signing autographs and taking pictures.
On Friday and Saturday, Dec. 4-5, the Reds made sure to highlight the club's new Spring Training home with a large area at Redsfest, the team's annual fan festival in downtown Cincinnati. More than 17,000 fans attended Redsfest and most of them stopped by the Goodyear Zone, which was packed with fun games for kids, a putting challenge, informational videos on Goodyear Ballpark and the Reds Development Complex and much more. City of Goodyear officials were also on hand to answer questions and sign up fans for 2010 Spring Training tickets.
On Sunday, Nov. 8, the Southwest Valley Chamber of Commerce hosted "Picnic in the Park" at the Reds Player Development Complex. Chamber members and their families were joined by families from nearby Luke Air Force Base for the afternoon. Mr. Redlegs was on hand to bring fun for the kids, and he was joined by Slider from the Indians and Howler from the Phoenix Coyotes.
