Redlegs 5K sets record with over 3,500 runners and raises over $93,000 for Reds Community Fund

Top Male and Female Finishers to Throw Out First Pitch on June 16th

CINCINNATI (May 30, 2009) – A record 3,514 runners turned out this morning at Great American Ball Park for the Redlegs Run for Home 5K. Now in its eighth year, the '09 Redlegs 5K generated $93,000 for the Reds Community Fund.

This year's 3,514 runners is a 46% increase over the 2,400 runners in 2008.

All proceeds from the race directly benefit the Reds Community Fund (the official nonprofit of the Cincinnati Reds) and its baseball-themed outreach programs that include youth baseball funding, field renovations and inner-city youth baseball leagues.

The top male finisher was Drew Harris of Alexandria, KY with a time of 15:18. Scott Mindel of Cincinnati finished second and Nate Ritz of Delaware, OH finished third. Brian List of Milford, OH finished fourth and Blake Jones of Portsmouth, OH finished fifth.

The top female finisher was Samantha Siler of Cincinnati with a time of 18:06. Julianne Hoekzema of Fairfield, OH finished second and Kerry Bogner of Cincinnati finished third. Jennifer Hannen of Cincinnati finished fourth and Kristen Balogh of Pittsburgh, PA finished fifth.

The top Business Courier Corporate Challenge team "UC Ducks" consisting of Jason Barhorst, David Holmberg, Adam Hehr and Aaron Tobey finished with a combined time of 1:11:43. The top coed team "Eric's Little Minions" consisting of Laura Wagner, Khanh Cao, Eric Cole and Rachael Minz-Cole finished with a combined time of 22:46.

"This is by far was the largest turnout in the eight years of the race," said Charley Frank, executive director of the Reds Community Fund. "All the proceeds of the race go directly to our youth baseball outreach programs throughout Greater Cincinnati and Reds Country."

All participants received a race T-shirt and a ticket for the June 16th Reds vs. Braves game. The top five male and female finishers will be recognized prior to the game with the top male and female winners throwing out ceremonial first pitches.

Race sponsors include Cintas, United Healthcare, PNC, Clear Channel, Fox19, Business Courier, Trophy Awards and Fleet Feet Sports.
